Machine Shed on the campus of the Iola Historical Society

The Iola Historical Society will present a special program highlighting the storied journey of the sloop “Restoration” and the start of organized Norwegian immigration to North America at its upcoming meeting on Monday, Feb. 23, 2025.

The event will take place at the Machine Shed, 222 Depot Street in Iola, with the program beginning at 7 p.m. Patti Rous of the Central Wisconsin Sons of Norway will deliver the featured presentation, sharing insights about the historic voyage and the significance of the 200th anniversary replica, which will sail to New York City on Oct. 9, 2025. The society aims to engage the community with this educational event as part of its ongoing mission to preserve and celebrate local and immigrant heritage.

The evening will commence with a board meeting at 5:30 p.m., followed by the general membership meeting at 6:30 p.m. During the business portion, members will discuss and plan a variety of 2026 events and projects. Early planning explorations will address the Memorial Day Salute to Veterans Pork Roast scheduled for Monday, May 26, and the Strawberry Fest & Antique Collectibles Fair to take place on Sunday, June 28.

Community members are encouraged to attend, participate in the planning discussions, and enjoy an evening dedicated to the region’s history and its ties to wider immigrant stories.
