The Iola-Scandinavia softball team lost to Shiocton, 2-1, in a CWC-East game at Iola on Tuesday, April 22. The Thunderbirds dropped their conference record to 1-3 and their overall record to 5-4.
The T-Birds held a slim 1-0 lead through the fifth inning before Shiocton rallied for one run in the sixth inning and what proved to be the winning run in the seventh inning for the come-from-behind victory.
Iola-Scandinavia could manage only two hits to Shiocton’s seven hits. Ava Printz had one of those hits and drove in the lone run on a groundout and Libby Maus had the other hit. The Thunderbirds missed a few early scoring opportunities by leaving six runners on base. In the first inning, the T-Birds left three runners on base and in the second inning left two runners on base.
Pitcher Rayanne Clendenning went the distance in taking the loss. Clendenning allowed two walks while striking out six batters.
The varsity team will travel to Menominee Nation in Keshena for a conference game on Friday, April 25, starting at 4:30 p.m.
