Statewide tornado drill scheduled for April 10

By Scandinavia Volunteer Fire Department
The week of April 7–11 is Severe Weather Awareness Week. During this week, we ask all employees to take time to review their Emergency Action Plans at work and home.
In conjunction with Severe Weather Awareness Week, Scandinavia Fire will be participating in the statewide tornado drill scheduled for April 10, 2025, at 1:45 p.m. During this drill, employees should expect alerts to be broadcast over television, radio, and building public address systems. When these alarms sound, employees in the building should follow the directions of Floor Captains and head to the nearest shelter-in-place location, this includes interior stairwells and/or restrooms.
Preparedness
Tornadoes and severe weather can develop rapidly, so it’s important to know what to do and where to seek shelter.
To stay safe during severe weather at home, ReadyWisconsin encourages people to do the following:
• Create an emergency plan and practice it.
• Know where designated shelters are located at home, work, and school, and be ready to go there when a tornado warning is issued.
• Have multiple ways to receive alerts about approaching severe weather. Outdoor warning sirens, NOAA Weather Radios, local media, and smart phone apps are all important tools. Don’t rely on any single source for important life-saving information.
• If you have a mobile device, make sure it is enabled to receive Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA). On many devices, that option is available in the settings menu. Find out more about WEA here.
• Stay weather aware by checking the daily forecast for your area.
• Create an emergency kit for your home.
