In an interesting monthly meeting held at the Scandinavia Municipal Center on Oct. 31, the Village Board, led by President Dave Mork, addressed several key matters impacting the community.
The meeting kicked off with the approval of the October agenda and September minutes, both passing unanimously. A decision was also made to commence meetings with the Pledge of Allegiance.
Trustee vacancy nomination stalemate
A notable development unfolded as Trustee Morgan nominated Steve Smith and Trustee Hayes nominated Kelton Wilhite to fill a Trustee vacancy. Both nominations resulted in a tie vote, highlighting the board’s indecision.
Trustee Morgan shared a letter from Krista Watson of ScandiHus about the upcoming Holiday Hop on Nov. 8. Discussions included the installation of Christmas lights before the event, with President Mork assuring their presence by Nov. 6. Additional streetlights were planned, but completion was expected post-event.
Snowplow quotes were reviewed, leading to a unanimous decision to approve Berrens for winter 2023-2024 snowplowing. Trustee Morgan reported on the order of winter parking signs and the approval of Resolution 23-10 amending Village Ordinance 7-5-1.
Infrastructure updates and financials
Trustee Hayes reported on storm water erosion being addressed, while President Mork conducted a quarterly dam inspection. However, updates on lift station quotes and DNR reports were still pending. The board approved invoices and verified cash fund balances.
President Mork announced a budget hearing on Nov. 21, along with the November Monthly Board Meeting. The meeting adjourned briefly for the scheduled Plan Commission meeting, with subsequent motions, including the addition of “Dog Breeding Facility” to the Village Ordinance, and final adjournment.
The meeting adjourned at 6:34 p.m.
