Scandinavia Village Board tables fire truck funding, advances park and sewer projects

Scandinavia Municipal Center

The Scandinavia Village Board tackled pressing matters during its regular meeting on Oct. 8, including progress on building permits, nuisance issues, and essential infrastructure updates. In a significant move, the Board tabled a decision on contributing toward a new fire truck while moving forward with repairs and updates to the village lift station. The Board also accepted a $2,763 donation for park maintenance, highlighting the community’s collaborative spirit.

The meeting began with an update on several building permits and property matters. Notable progress was reported on 110 Church Street, while permits for 475 Pleasant Street neared final inspection. The Village committed to following up on pending inspections for properties on 280 Mill Street and 625 Pleasant Street.

The Board also addressed unresolved nuisance issues, such as the need for dog licenses at 440 North Main and an updated permit for 350 North Shore Drive. While some problems were resolved — such as those at 505 Mill Street — other issues remain under scrutiny.

An agenda item regarding the Village’s potential contribution toward purchasing a new fire truck was postponed.

Sewer Operator Jesse Hass briefed the Board on recent lift station issues. A motion was unanimously passed to seek quotes for repairs and upgrades to the aging infrastructure.

Additionally, the Village addressed $9,504 in delinquent sewer payments. Residents have until Nov. 10, 2024, to settle overdue accounts, or the balances will be added to their property tax bills.

Adam Blohm, president of the Scandinavia Booster Club, presented the village with a $2,763 check. The surplus from the Sentral Park Restoration Committee will support ongoing mowing and maintenance efforts.
