The Scandinavia Vikings rode a masterclass performance on the mound by Ben Lee to overpower New London 8-3 in a Week 6 matchup of the Badger Amateur Baseball Association South Central Division. Lee turned in one of the most dominant pitching outings of the season, striking out 16 batters and surrendering just one hit over seven innings of work.
Lee, the winning pitcher, made life miserable for New London’s hitters from the first pitch to his final frame. He allowed only three baserunners during his outing and silenced any offensive momentum New London attempted to build.
While Lee carved up the New London lineup, Scandinavia’s bats came alive early and often. Caleb Bembanek delivered the biggest blow of the game, crushing a home. He finished 2-for-5 with 5 RBIs and provided the spark the Vikings needed to seize momentum.
Jake Hoffman added a stellar performance of his own, going 3-for-4 and knocking in two runs. His steady presence in the heart of the lineup kept the pressure on New London’s pitching staff, led by losing pitcher Ethan Herzfeldt.
Herzfeldt struggled to find rhythm against the Vikings, yielding multiple extra-base hits and failing to work through key innings. New London’s defense didn’t do him many favors either, committing untimely errors that extended innings.
RJ Rosenthal also contributed for the Vikings, going 2-for-3 and scoring twice.
For New London, it was a frustrating afternoon at the plate. The team managed only three hits — one each from Cody Behm, Tyler Gernts, and Chev Austin. All three struggled to find gaps in a stingy Vikings defense.
