The Town of Scandinavia Board met on Wednesday, Nov. 12, at 5:32 p.m. in the Scandinavia Municipal Center following the 2026 Budget Hearing and Special Town Meeting. The session, led by Town Chair Bryan Fuhs, focused on financial approvals, infrastructure updates, and staffing appointments.
All board members—Frank Bauer, Brenda Mazemke, Bryan Fuhs, Lonnie Przybylski, and Mike Mazemke—were present, while no residents attended the meeting.
After opening with the Pledge of Allegiance, the board approved both the agenda and the clerk’s minutes without discussion. Treasurer Mike Mazemke presented the October financial report, showing a check register balance of $20,915.02 as of Oct. 31. The report was unanimously accepted following a motion by Frank Bauer and a second by Lonnie Przybylski.
In committee updates, it was announced that resident Ricky Ertl would be joining the Planning Commission, filling a vacant position and strengthening the town’s planning efforts.
Discussion then turned to road maintenance and safety. The board confirmed that Bergen Road, Smith Road, and Rosholt Road will be graded and repaired in the coming weeks. The Waupaca County Sheriff’s Department is expected to address speeding concerns on Kenwood Drive through increased patrols, while the Waupaca County Highway Department will install snow fences in areas prone to drifting during the winter season.
Old Business
Under old business, several ongoing property and zoning issues were reviewed. No new information was available on the Van Dyke or Ron Gavin salvage yards, and no update was provided on the Knauer Conditional Use Permit. The board discussed ongoing clutter concerns at the Randy Stuczynski property on Oak Ridge Road; the Scandinavia Fire Chief will handle the matter and report it to Waupaca County Zoning for further action.
A major highlight of the meeting was the fire department’s equipment update. The town’s new fire truck has been purchased and is expected to be operational within the week. The older fire truck was sold to a fire department in Alaska for $7,500, marking a successful transition in the department’s fleet. The board also briefly reviewed progress on the Iola Ambulance Service’s 2027 ambulance acquisition, ensuring continued coordination between local emergency services.
Attention then shifted to staffing, with board members reaffirming their intent to fill open positions on both the Town Board and the Planning Commission. The shortage of volunteers has been a recurring issue for the town, and the board remains committed to finding qualified individuals to serve.
New Business
In new business, the board approved the payment of bills for several municipal and service accounts. Payments included expenses for the Village of Scandinavia’s October and third-quarter sewer costs, the Waupaca County Treasurer for highway expenses, Rural Mutual Insurance Company for town insurance coverage, Command Central for election-related services, the Humane Society of Waupaca County for pet control, the Iola Regional Recycling Center for the 2026 recycling assessment, and the Iola Ambulance Service for its third-quarter assessment.
The board also reviewed correspondence, including a land use permit application from resident Vernon Cady. There were no new filings for notices of intent to cut timber.
With no public input or additional matters raised, the meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn.
The next regular meeting of the Scandinavia Town Board is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 10, at 5:30 p.m. at the Scandinavia Municipal Center.
