Scandinavia Town Board okays 2025 budget, discusses road repairs and new food pantry initiative

In a productive meeting held on Nov. 13 at the Scandinavia Municipal Center, the Town of Scandinavia Board approved the 2025 budget, addressed ongoing road maintenance issues, and expressed interest in a proposed Little Free Food Pantry at the local library.

The meeting, called to order at 5:31 p.m. by the town chair, included key decisions impacting the community. The board finalized and approved the 2025 town budget, including the levy and transportation allocations, as presented earlier during the budget hearing. This action solidifies funding plans for the upcoming fiscal year.

In addition to budgetary approvals, the board tackled road maintenance concerns. Recent graveling on Hi Corners Road was completed, but potholes on Nottleson and Blueberry Roads remain unresolved, requiring attention to ensure safe travel.

Meredith Miller from the Scandinavia Library introduced a Little Free Food Pantry program. Following consultations with the UW Extension Office, Miller presented the idea to both the Village and Town of Scandinavia. While both entities showed interest, further development of a detailed plan is required before moving forward.

Other business

The meeting also covered the approval of October’s financial reports, with a check register balance of $42,852.39 as of Oct. 31. Additionally, the board approved payments for expenses including highway services, elections, and miscellaneous municipal costs.

Under old business, the ongoing issue of the Van Dyke junk and salvage yard was referred to Waupaca County Zoning for further action. The board also reviewed an open records request from Laura Scott concerning the town’s comprehensive plan, as well as correspondence about a floodplain permit involving Alliant Energy.

The board scheduled its next monthly meeting for Wednesday, Dec. 11, at 5:30 p.m. at the Scandinavia Municipal Center.
