Scandinavia Town Board Aug. 9 meeting covers various local matters

The Scandinavia Town Board convened on Aug. 9, at the Scandinavia Municipal Center, with board members Gary Marx, Frank Bauer, Brenda Mazemke, Mike Mazemke, and Bryan Fuhs, along with the presence of Ricky Ertl. The meeting commenced at 5:32 p.m. with the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.

Bauer initiated a motion to approve the agenda, which Fuhs seconded, leading to its successful adoption.

Subsequently, another motion by Bauer, seconded by Fuhs, approved the Clerk’s minutes, with an additional inclusion.

In the Treasurer’s report for July 2023, presented by Mike Mazemke, the bank balance as of July 31, 2023, stood at $14,508.93. Bauer proposed a motion to accept the Treasurer’s report, seconded by Fuhs, and this motion was carried.

The Planning Commission announced that the Iola Car Show Sand Mine meeting would take place on Tuesday, Aug. 22, at the Waupaca County Courthouse at 9 a.m.

Regarding road issues, road patching was successfully completed on several roads, with grinding work initiated on a section of Hi Corners Road. Ditch second mowing was scheduled to commence at the end of August, with two passes planned.

Old Business

The Vandyke Junk Yard Salvage Yard received approval from Waupaca County Zoning for its fencing, thus rendering it a non-issue for future agendas. There were no updates on the Ron Gavin Junk/Salvage Yard.

The Board of Review was scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 11, from 6-8 p.m., and the Open Book session was set for Tuesday, Sept. 19, from 9-11:00 a.m. An Annual Joint Meeting with the Village of Scandinavia was planned for Monday, Sept. 18, at 5 p.m.

The meeting also touched on the availability of open positions in the Town of Scandinavia Board and Planning Commission in 2025.

New Business

Frank Bauer’s motion to approve the Iola Lions application for a Temporary Class “B”/Class “B” Retailer’s License (Ride for Heroes event) was seconded by Bryan Fuhs and carried. Additionally, a motion by Bauer to grant an Operator’s License to Ricky Ertl for the Iola Lions (Ride for Heroes event) was seconded by Fuhs and passed. However, a motion made by Fuhs to reject the request for the town to fund outdoor lighting at Brekke Lake Landing did pass.

Lastly, Frank Bauer made a motion to approve the payment of various bills, including those from the Village of Scandinavia (July expenses), Village of Scandinavia (2nd quarter sewer), Scott Construction (highway expenses), Waupaca County-Treasurer (highway expenses), Scandinavia Fire Department (2% dues), and Paul Shanklin (highway expenses).

The payment to Scott Construction for highway expenses would be settled in full after the receipt of the August settlement from Waupaca County. Additionally, a transfer of $9,000 from the Contingency account was approved to cover a check made out to the assessor in June.

Correspondence was reviewed from several entities, including Land Use Permit Applications from Nicholas Knauer, Paul Meagher, Nicholas Sieckert, and Mary Lou Marshall, as well as a Notice of Intent to Cut from Gordon and Loell Peterson and David and Melanie Draska.

The meeting concluded without any public input, and it was announced that the next Board Meeting would take place on Wednesday, Sept. 13, at 5:30 pm. Bauer made a motion to adjourn, which was seconded by Fuhs, and the meeting was adjourned.
