
The Scandinavia Town Board convened its regular monthly meeting on Nov. 12 at the Scandinavia Municipal Center, where board members, town officials, and residents gathered to address a range of municipal concerns.
During the session, the board approved a series of road maintenance and safety measures, reviewed emergency services provisions, and discussed ongoing and new business impacting the community. The actions taken were significant in responding to public concerns about infrastructure and safety, as well as ensuring the continued operation and transparency of town government.
Treasurer’s Report
The meeting began with the Treasurer’s Report, which was presented and subsequently approved by the board. The report summarized recent expenditures and current account balances, affirming the town’s financial stability. The check register balance as of Oct. 31, was $20,915.02. Following the report, the board authorized payment of outstanding bills for municipal services and maintenance, ensuring continuity in town operations.
A representative of the Planning Commission provided an update on recent activities, including progress on zoning reviews and land use applications.
Road maintenance
A major action of the meeting involved the approval of road maintenance and safety enhancements, following reports of wear on local roads and resident feedback regarding traffic hazards. Bergen Road, Smith Road, and Rosholt Road will be graded and repaired. Speeding issues on Kenwood Drive will be addressed by the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Department. The Waupaca County Highway Department will install snow fences where needed on our township roads.
Old Business
In the course of reviewing old business, board members discussed ongoing issues related to a local junk yard, including compliance with environmental regulations and property maintenance standards. Several local matters were addressed in recent community updates.
Concerns from neighbors Wanda Wendlandt and Kevin Romhouse regarding the Ron Gavin Junk/Salvage Yard will be taken up with Waupaca County Zoning officials. Similarly, the cul-de-sac on Oak Ridge Road has become cluttered again, and the Scandinavia Fire Chief is set to handle the issue, which will also be reported to county zoning authorities.
In fire department news, a new fire truck has been purchased and is expected to be in service within about a week, following the sale of the previous truck to a fire department in Alaska for $7,500. Additionally, the prospect of acquiring a new ambulance for the Iola Ambulance Service by 2027 was discussed.
The board addressed current vacancies for the Town of Scandinavia Board and Planning Commission open positions. The Board will continue to look to fill the open positions.
New Business
Under new business, the board reviewed incoming correspondence from residents and external agencies, responding to inquiries and forwarding relevant matters to committees for further review.
Greg Ambrosius spoke on behalf of the concerned landowners. They would like the Town of Scandinavia Board to call MEA about the current judicial passing of the Iola Car Show Sand Mine. MEA needs our permission to check into this situation. Board Chair will follow up.
The board announced that its next regular meeting would be held at the Scandinavia Municipal Center on Dec.10, inviting residents to attend and participate in ongoing town governance.
