The Town of Scandinavia Town Board convened on Wednesday, Oct. 23, at the Scandinavia Municipal Center to discuss and make decisions on several important town matters. The meeting, which was attended by board members Gary Marx, Frank Bauer, Brenda Mazemke, and Mike Mazemke, addressed both immediate concerns and long-term plans, including the town’s 2025 budget, the purchase of a new ambulance, and the approval of various service agreements. The meeting commenced at 5:31 p.m., following the approval of the agenda and the clerk’s minutes.
One of the major actions taken was the approval of the Treasurer’s report for September 2024, which reported a balance of $47,528.03 in the town’s check register. Frank Bauer motioned to accept the report, and the motion passed unanimously.
The board also addressed several ongoing issues, including the Van Dyke Junk/Savage Yard situation on Gilman Road, where concerns over excessive vehicles were raised, and progress on Randy Stuczynski’s Oak Ridge Road property, which now allows easier access to the Iola Car Show entrance.
As part of the meeting, the board began laying the groundwork for the 2025 budget, which was to have been discussed further at a special Budget Hearing and Town Meeting scheduled for Nov. 13. Another significant topic was the Iola Ambulance Service’s request for a new ambulance, expected to cost $278,000. The town’s share of the expense will be 19 percent, amounting to $53,000. This funding was approved, ensuring the continued viability of the local ambulance service.
Additionally, the board reviewed and approved the 2025-27 Maintenance Assessment service agreement with Zillmer Mid State Service LLC, noting that a market adjustment would be implemented in 2026.
The payment of bills was also addressed and approved, including assessments for services from the Village of Scandinavia and the Iola Ambulance Service.
In closing, the board reviewed correspondence, including land use permit applications from Joseph and Mary Jane Duberstein and Thomas Poznanski Sr., as well as a notice of intent to cut from Al Pheifer Family Woodland, LLC, and Jeff Clausson.
