The Town of Scandinavia Board met on Wednesday, September 10, at the Scandinavia Municipal Center to review ongoing road maintenance projects, finalize arrangements for a fire truck loan, and address vacant board positions, according to the official meeting minutes.
During the session, Supervisor Frank Bauer called the meeting to order, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and routine approvals of the agenda and clerk’s minutes. The board also approved the Treasurer’s report for August 2025, which showed a check register balance of $111,783.69.
A major topic discussed was the purchase of a new fire truck. Donation funds for the vehicle had been received, and the board decided to secure a loan through Premier Community Bank to cover the remaining balance. This purchase marked a significant investment in local emergency services and followed months of community fundraising efforts.
The board also addressed road maintenance issues on Gilman Road and Hi Corner Road, where ditching and culvert clearing had been completed. According to the minutes, the Waupaca County Highway Department was scheduled to inspect and fill potholes before winter, part of the town’s ongoing infrastructure upkeep.
Under Old Business, the Conditional Use Permit (CUP) for Van Dyke’s junk and salvage yard was postponed for two months, while there were no updates on the Ron Gavin and Knauer CUP cases. Progress was also noted at Randy Stuczynski’s Oak Ridge Road property, where previous site adjustments had allowed a fire truck to turn around safely; the board planned to continue monitoring the site’s compliance.
In New Business, the board addressed leadership transitions following the passing of former Chair Gary Marx, whose memory was honored with a moment of silence. Frank Bauer nominated Bryan Fuhs to serve as interim chairperson, a motion seconded by Brenda Mazemke and carried unanimously. Bryan Fuhs then nominated Lonnie Przybylski to fill the Supervisor 2 position for the remainder of the current term, with Frank Bauer seconding the motion.
The board also reviewed correspondence, including a land use permit application from Britny Raser and a Notice of Intent to Cut from Christine Blair and Shirley Petersen. Routine expenditures for highway and miscellaneous expenses were approved, including payments to Scott Construction, Waupaca County Treasurer, Village of Scandinavia, and Office Outfitters.
The Planning Commission report noted no new developments, and the board agreed to continue searching for candidates to fill open positions on both the Town Board and Planning Commission.
