The Annual Chili Luncheon fundraiser for The Scandinavia Historical Society of Wisconsin, formerly known as Friends of Scandinavia History (FOSH), marks the group’s 20th anniversary on Sunday, Feb. 22, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Silver Lake Lanes in Scandinavia.
This all-you-can-eat meal will feature six varieties of red and white chili, accompanied by shredded cheese, crackers, and Fritos. Guests can also enjoy a wide selection of desserts, coffee, and water, while additional beverages are available for purchase at the bar. Donations are: $9 for adults and $5 for children ages 5-12, with to-go containers available for those who prefer takeout.
Attendees will have the chance to participate in both a 50/50 raffle and a basket raffle, with prizes generously donated by local businesses.
A highlight of the luncheon will be the debut of a life-size cutout of Clifford Thompson, Scandinavia’s own “local giant,” who stood eight feet, seven inches tall and was once considered the world’s tallest man. Visitors are encouraged to take photos with Thompson’s likeness and measure their height against his.
Proceeds from the fundraiser will help maintain two of the Society’s historic buildings at Memorial Park’s Historic Street: the barber shop and Silver Lake Service Station, both in need of siding and window repairs. Funds will also support staining and electrical work for the new storage and display building.
Founded in 2005, the Society has spent two decades preserving the history of the Town and Village of Scandinavia, moving five historic structures to Memorial Park. The group holds meetings at 7 p.m. on the second Monday of select months at the Scandinavia Municipal Center, offering programs on local history and a light lunch. All community members interested in Scandinavia’s heritage are welcome to attend.
