The Scandinavia Historical Society of Wisconsin celebrated two decades of preserving the history of the village and town during its January meeting, where members discussed ongoing projects, fundraising plans, and donations to maintain historic sites.
Carl Lantz called the meeting to order at 7 p.m. on Jan. 12 at the Municipal Center in Scandinavia.
After the Pledge of Allegiance and approval of the previous meeting’s minutes with one correction — crediting Lupe Munoz with donating Norwegian plates — members accepted the treasurer’s report.
Munoz provided an update on the society’s website and planned to meet with Mary Peterson to select additional photographs for inclusion.
Carl Evenson reported on progress at the barbershop exhibit. Quest Interiors in Oshkosh offered to donate two white marble countertops, which the society accepted. Evenson repaired cane chairs, and he crafted a white barber’s coat with buttons and a matching cape using vintage materials from his grandmother, along with period buttons and snaps.
Carl Lantz sought donations of early log-building tools, horse- or ox-drawn implements, and a cradle scythe. Evenson offered one such item.
The new shed project neared completion, pending installation of doors, a second coat of stain scheduled for spring, and connection of electricity.
In new business, members discussed the upcoming chili luncheon fundraiser.
The meeting concluded with a celebration of the organization’s 20th anniversary. Mary Peterson highlighted key accomplishments in preserving Scandinavia’s history, and members enjoyed cake.
The next meeting is scheduled for March 9.
