Scandinavia boards to meet on joint property and budget issues May 22

Scandinavia Municipal Center

The Town and Village of Scandinavia boards will hold a joint special meeting at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 22, at the Scandinavia Municipal Center to address a wide range of shared expenditures and jointly owned property matters. The agenda will include discussion of Memorial Park, the municipal center, the fire department budget, traffic flow, library operations, public parking, and annual maintenance procedures.

The meeting will begin with the appointment of a chairperson, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance, approval of the agenda, and approval of the minutes from 2024. From there, the boards will turn their attention to property and maintenance items. Memorial Park will be reviewed along with issues of mowing responsibilities and insurance coverage required from the local baseball club.

The municipal center and fire department will take up a large portion of the discussion. Officials will hear a budget update related to the fire department’s truck, along with consideration of HVAC needs at both the municipal center and fire station. A report on the Behrens plowing contract and the condition of the parking lot, including chip sealing needs, will also be included.

Traffic and parking will be another focus. The boards will review traffic flow from Mill Street through the parking lot, as well as public parking availability in the village and town. In addition, library operations will be discussed, including reports from the Scandinavia Public Library, the baseball club, the booster club, the fire department, and the Friends of Scandinavia History group.

Joint procedures for property maintenance will be addressed through a discussion of annual practices for village- and town-owned properties. Officials will also consider the current insurance policy, with renewal and review on the agenda, and review arrangements with the Iola recycling center and landfill.

The meeting will conclude with announcements, informal public comment, and consideration of a date for the 2026 joint meeting before adjournment.
