DON’T FEED THE GOATS: Sustainable Stewards Farmstead wants area residents to know they shouldn’t feed the goats. According to them, “Humans carry the influenza virus, strep throat, and other diseases that can and will kill my oats. … You are not allowed to throw your scraps of any kind to our goats. No feeding of garden scraps, corn feed, anything fresh or otherwise.” The goats are now grazing along the River Walk.
FIRE: Peter VanDyke’s home on Highway 49 just south of Scandinavia was consumed by fire on Friday, Aug. 29. Multiple departments responded to the fire.
FOOTBALL LOSS: The Iola-Scandinavia Thunderbirds Varsity Football team lost to the Weyauwega-Fremont Warhawks 36-14.

USS WISCONSIN: August 27 marked the official beginning of the construction of America’s newest nuclear submarine, the USS Wisconsin! WISCONSIN (SSBN 827) is the second of the new Columbia-Class nuclear-powered submarines and is named in recognition of the over 300 companies and suppliers located in Wisconsin involved with her design, development, and construction.
