Saturday Iola-Scandinavia news roundup

Around Town

ALBERS NAMED MORNING CO-ANCHOR: Iola native Andrea Albers has been a familiar and trusted face for TMJ4 News viewers since joining the station in 2021 as a reporter and anchor. Most recently, she has been guiding the Milwaukee area through the morning commute as TMJ4’s traffic anchor, and as the station’s consumer reporter, working to tell stories that get results for local families. Read the TMJ4 announcement here. Congratulations Andrea!

NEW STORYWALK BOOK: There’s a new book on the StoryWalk® in Jorgens Park Preserve! You can now read “I Don’t Want to Read This Book Aloud” by Max Greenfield with illustrations by Mike Lowery — a story dedicated to introverts of all ages about the horrors of reading aloud! Remember to sign the visitor’s log located in the box at the top of the first story page. The Scandinavia Public Library loves to see how many people are using the ‘Walk.’ These numbers are also included in the library’s annual report, which helps determine the library’s future funding!

Around the State

MICROSOFT DATA CENTER: Microsoft announced plans for an additional $4 billion data center in Kenosha County on Thursday morning, it came with comments from Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers and Milwaukee County Executive and governor candidate David Crowley about the benefits. But many of the usual benefits of a business entering the state – property taxes, sales tax, and employment – have already been conceded by the state, while questions remain about the impact of energy and water use at the facilities. APOSTLE ISLANDS NATIONAL PARK: Congressman Tom Tiffany (WI-07) reintroduced the Apostle Islands National Park and Preserve Act. This legislation will elevate the Apostle Islands from a National Lakeshore to Wisconsin’s first National Park. Read the WEAU story here.
