The Rotary Club of Waupaca presented a check for $750 to the Waupaca Area Food Pantry. In addition to helping to make sure shelves are fully-stocked, Board President Linda Holtebeck said the funds will help the Pantry’s effort to offer a food delivery option for home-bound senior citizens.
Funds for the grant came from Rotary International, which made $1 million available to help clubs respond to pandemic response needs in their communities.
“We chose to give funds provided to our club to the food pantry because they are in a position to quickly help those most-affected by the pandemic and related shutdowns,” said Gail Huberty, chair of the club’s Rotary Foundation Committee.
Holtebeck indicated that the Pantry was able to adapt to the pandemic by providing curbside pick-up for its clients. Further, the Pantry has begun to accept direct donations of food again.
“We now have a space where donated food items can sit for a few days so they can be safely handled,” Holtebeck shared. “Cash donations are still vital to help us provide the variety of nutritious foods our clients need, but if people want to donate food items, items most needed currently are: jam/jelly, condiments (spices, mayo, salsa, BBQ sauce,), ramin, oatmeal/hot cereal, jello, pancake mix, canned vegetables, rice, tomato paste, and crackers.”
