Under Milwaukee Police Department’s (MPD) Standard Operating Procedure 130, MPD officers are directed not to ask an individual being arrested about their citizenship. They are also banned from arresting someone solely for being suspected of violating immigration law.

“The American people and the voters of Wisconsin spoke loud and clear,” said State Rep. Brent Jacobson.

“They want safety and security in their communities again. After living under Biden’s borderless policies for the past four years, safety and security is under attack by an endless stream of illegal immigration. No state has been spared from this reality.”

In contrast to Milwaukee, eight Wisconsin sheriff’s departments have already signed agreements with Immigration and Customs Enforcement to enable cooperation in immigration enforcement.

“Local law enforcement should be looking to partner with federal authorities in ensuring community members are here legally,” said Jacobson. “MPD’s SOP 130 is directly contrary to those efforts.”
