Quilts of Valor were presented to recipients on Monday, Nov. 3, by the Norske Needlers quilt group of Iola, Wisconsin.
This project of making quilts and giving them to veterans began at the national level in 2003 as a way of honoring them for their service. Norske Needler Quilter Gloria Lamkins spearheaded this project called Quilts of Valor. They are given with the intention of sending the message of Honor, Freedom, and Comfort.
The top layer of the quilts has many colors, shapes, and fabrics that represent the many individuals and communities we are. The middle layer of batting represents the hope that this quilt will bring warmth, comfort, and peace to the recipients. The bottom layer represents the strength of the recipients and support of their families, communities, and our nation.
Thanks to all of those who participated in making the quilts by sewing or quilting, and to the maker of the pillowcases, which went home with the recipients. Also, thanks to the families and quilters who attended the ceremony.
