The proposed 2021 budget for the Village of Iola will see an increase of 3 percent or $30,577 over 2020.
In General Expenses, the overall budget will be reduced by $6,709 or 4 percent despite an increase of $5,000 for a new system for maintaining accounts and $800 for office supplies and telephone.
Under Employee Insurance, total costs will decrease $18,582 from 2020 with savings reflected in Social Security and health insurance.
For the Police, total expenses decrease 6 percent or $12,756 in 2021 with the biggest savings of $48,105 in police chief sick-time buyout. Additional increases in line items included Patrolman 1 – Acting Chief of $6,920, Patrolman 2 – Sergeant $3,709, and a new position of Patrolman 3 $27,000.
Under Transportation, total expenses will see a hike of 14 percent or $23,714. Vehicle – Equipment Replacement increased $19,000 from $1,000 in 2020, and Snow Removal is increased 49 percent or $8,500.
In Other expenses, the Library line item sees a boost of 12 percent or $19,994 and the Park went up 12 percent or $2,000. The Contingency Fund grew by 43 percent or $5,830 and the Debt Service up 11 percent or $10,754.
