Philip A. “Flip” Strand

January 28, 1930 – July 28, 2022

Philip “Flip” A. Strand, age 92, of the Town of Rome, Wisconsin, passed away on Thursday, July 28, 2022, at Willow Brooke Point Memory Care in Stevens Point, Wisconsin.

Flip was born on Jan. 28, 1930, in Iola, Wisconsin, to J. Roy and Eva (Thoe) Strand. He graduated from Iola High School in 1947.

He married Betty Alexander on July 11, 1953, in Madison, Wisconsin.

Flip worked for American Family Insurance until retiring in 1992. They then moved from Windsor, Wisconsin, to the Northwoods in 1995.

Flip was a member of Woodland Lutheran Church, Lake Arrowhead Golf Course Association, and Ducks Unlimited. He loved being in the outdoors, golfing, and fishing, especially trout. Flip was also proud to have been a member of the design committee for the Lakes Course at Lake Arrowhead. He enjoyed listening to music and taught himself to play the piano, organ and Stumpf fiddle. Flip loved to entertain friends and family and be in front of an audience.

Flip is survived by his children Sandra (Mark) Johnson, Philip (Kris) Strand and Lisa (James) Lenton; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and special friend, Donna Hoffman.

He is preceded in death by parents; wife Betty; grandchild Spencer; and brother David Strand.

A Memorial Service will be held at Woodland Lutheran Church, Nekoosa, Wisconsin, on Thursday, Aug. 11, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Margo Peterson presiding. Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 10-11:00 a.m. Burial will be held at Spring Branch Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Philip’s name to Woodland Lutheran Church or Compassus Hospice Care 1840 Post Road Ste. 5, Plover, Wisconsin, 54467.
