Noise complaint rallies locals in defense of Iola eatery

The Thirsty Perch of Iola posted a plea on its Facebook page for support of their music venue on weekends.

“Hey Iola we need your help on Monday June 27th there is a village board meeting at 6 pm. There’s an issue with some people complaining about our music its like 4 to 6 people Who would like to see the music stopped. There issue is the frequency of us having music every weekend would like band stopped before 11 o’clock and would like the sound lowered at One point they even brought up 70 dB That’s the level we hold a conversation at. If you think we’re doing a good job and you want the music to stay could you please come on Monday June 27th To the special meeting being held at 6 PM without the summer music and the outside garage It would make keeping our doors open very tough I’m asking you to come and support us and let the village know that we are good for Iola the music is good for Iola And the playing to 11 o’clock is not unreasonable thank you in advance for y our support we really appreciate it.”

Some of the responses on Facebook included the following:

It’s a welcome summer sound! Have lived here for over 30 years and there’s always been the ‘THEY’ crowd who doesn’t like something.

The live music at Thirsty Perch is a breath of fresh air for Iola. The economic effect that live music brings into Iola is undeniable for Iola. Having a place to watch live music outdoors is great for Iola. Also keep in mind it is only on the weekend, not during the work week.

We were there a few weeks ago and your place is exactly what is needed close to home. Music and food were great and not too loud.

And most of the village can hear the music from the car show.

Miserable people. I can hear car show everything plain as day, can’t hear the music from my house on Iola St though. Can’t even hear it inside Depot Street where I work. This is just madness.

I can hear it at my house and I honestly love it! I’d rather hear that than some other crud I hear! Definitely better than the lawn mowers going down the road to the dump at 6am!

The BEST business in Iola! Owned by amazing people, who do so much for others in the community. Outside music during the few short summer days is harmless… I pray many people show up in support – sush the devil and move on.

We live 3 blocks away and can’t hear anything inside our house even with the windows open. The music is good for our town. I’m not sure what the issue is?
