Committee decides no chickens allowed in village
The Village of Iola Ordinance Committee met on March 11 and discussed ordinance suggestions from Police Chief Zierler.
Chairman Rick Meyers ran through a list of ordinances that Chief Paul Zierler has requested be addressed first as we begin updating the ordinance book:
No Alcohol Sign for Chet Krause Legacy Park. Village President Jennifer Shustek said we should also add Legion Park and the Dog Park to this list for No Alcohol Signs.
Add Vaping (all new nicotine smoking devices since 2000) to no underage smoking on public streets ordinance.
No open intoxicants are allowed in any motorized vehicles (ATV/UTV, Golf carts, lawnmowers tractors) on public streets.
Schustek wants to see a Monetary Permit Violation chart determined for all violations of most ordinances.
The decision was made that we would focus on a few chapters in the current ordinance book at a time and meet twice a month to go through and make up a draft of changes. Missy will send it to CivicPlus for suggestions and present it to the board for approval.
Schustek will be giving copies of zoning-related issues to zoning at an upcoming meeting, as we believe this will be the section that will be most time-consuming.
Having Chickens in the Village has been asked about again by a few Village residents. The committee believes that the ordinance should stay as written. No chickens are allowed in the village.
The next meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday, March 26, at 4 p.m.
