MusicFest 2 Set to strike a Bluegrass chord on Memorial Day

Bart’s Pizza Pub, nestled just north of Iola, will come alive with the soulful twang of bluegrass on Memorial Day, Monday, May 26, as it hosts MusicFest 2, an afternoon-long celebration aimed at raising funds and awareness in the fight against the proposed Iola Sand Mine.

From 1-6 p.m., music lovers and environmental advocates alike will gather for this spirited event, which will feature performances from regional bluegrass favorites such as Art Stevenson & Friends, Sloppy Joe, and Two Generations of Grass, Irene’s Garden, Eric H. Smith, Gapo, Dandelion Delivery Service, Snow on the Mountain and the Trio River. The music will echo from two stages — one set up outdoors under a tent and the other indoors, ensuring an immersive musical experience throughout the day.

MusicFest 2 is being organized by No Iola Sand Mine, a grassroots coalition opposing the controversial sand mining project proposed in the region. Greg Ambrosius, a key member of the organization, emphasized the dual goals of the event: “We hope to add other bands to make this a great day of enjoying great bluegrass and enjoying our environment,” he said.

The festival is more than a showcase of musical talent; it is a fundraiser for the Legal Defense Fund battling the Iola Sand Mine. Though there is no cover charge, attendees will be encouraged to donate to the cause, participate in a silent auction, and enter a raffle, all designed to generate financial support for the ongoing legal challenge.

Last year’s MusicFest proved wildly successful, drawing approximately 700 attendees with perfect weather. With that momentum, organizers are optimistic that this year’s event will surpass expectations, both in turnout and impact.

Bart’s Pizza Pub will provide food and beverages, with their full menu available to guests. Ambrosius can be reached at 715-254-5553 or via email at greg@sportshubtech.com for those interested in contributing to the silent auction or raffle.
