Morris Leroy Gilbertson

July 24, 1927 — December 26, 2025

Morris Leroy Gilbertson, 98, of King, Wisconsin, formerly of Northland, Town of Harrison, Waupaca County, passed away on Friday, Dec. 26, 2025. He had been a resident of the Wisconsin Veterans Home for the last 13 months.

Leroy was born on July 24, 1927, in Northland to the late Karl and Clara (Erickson) Gilbertson.
He served in the United States Army Air Corps as a military policeman. He was a logger and worked for the Berna Lumber Company in Northland for over 25 years. Leroy was a member of the Northland Lutheran Church.
Leroy was proud of where he grew up. For the first 97 years of his life, he lived in Northland within two houses that were next to each other. Then he moved into the Veterans home in King just over a year ago. He enjoyed bowling, playing softball, gardening, dancing, the Brewers, and “All-Star Wrestling”.

Even though he didn’t have any children, he took the time to connect with nieces and nephews by taking them to ball games, wrestling, or just spending time with them.

Leroy lost his hand in a sawmill accident in the 1970s. But that didn’t slow him down. He always kept busy, working and maintaining his house into his mid-90s. You could often see him helping others or volunteering at local storefronts, where he would ask for poppy donations for veterans. Leroy leaves behind a legacy of giving, caring, helping, and kindness. He will be forever missed.

He is survived by his nephews, Bruce (Robyn) Wiater, Gary (Sue) Wiater, Gene Gilbertson, and his nieces, Carol Arnold and Diane (David) Johnson.
Leroy is also survived by many other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his siblings, Myra (Lee) Vaughn, Rosella Gilbertson, Rueben (Violet) Gilbertson, Vernon Gilbertson, Elaine Gilbertson, and Irene (Bill) Wiater.

A Memorial Service for Leroy will be held on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Northland Lutheran Church with Rev. Bill Stukenberg officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 10-11 a.m. Interment will be in the Northland Lutheran Cemetery.
