JANUARY BOOK GROUP CHOICE: Want to add some joy to your life? Read “The Book of Joy” by the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu, then join the Scandinavia Public Library’s discussion when we next meet for Book Group on Tuesday, Jan. 28! HONOR FLIGHT FUNDRAISER: Make plans to attend the ISHS Boys Basketball game against Amherst on Thursday, Jan. 16, as NHS, DECA, and FCCLA partner to raise money to send veterans on the Old Glory Honor Flight. Veterans get in free. Activities include a Paper airplane contest, bake sale, chili feed (veterans eat free), and 50-50 raffle.

ACADEMIC ALL-STATE: Congratulations to Ben Beck for his Academic All-State Award. Ben earned this honor by qualifying for State Cross Country and maintaining a cumulative GPA of over 3.5.

HEALTH VENDING MACHINES: Waupaca County Public Health Services has two new public health vending machines! These vending machines are a free community resource with prevention items such as gun locks, tick kits, naloxone, first aid kits, safe sex kits, COVID tests, and more. They are meant to give people access to items that will help create a stronger and healthier community for all. For more info, go here.

Job Opportunities

LAKE IOLA LAKE DISTRICT: We now need a new operator. It is a seasonal Village of Iola position that does not involve benefits. The starting wage range is $15 to $20 per hour, with higher rates possible depending on experience and performance. Attention to detail, safe operation and mechanical ability are a must for the job. Passing the WDNR Boating Safety course is required too. Weed harvesting begins June 1st and ends around Labor Day. If you, or someone you know, is interested in this summertime job, please fill out an employment form at the Iola Village office.

CHURCH PIANIST: Iola United Methodist Church needs a pianist on Sunday from 7:45-8:45 a.m. Pay is $75 per Sunday. For more information contact Brenda Vander Zander at 920-427-6814. Additional time in Manawa is also available from 9:15-10:15 a.m.
