Around the State

LIFTING RESTRICTIONS ON LOGGING INDUSTRY: US Rep. Tony Wied (8th District) wrote a letter to Secretary Sean Duffy to congratulate him on his confirmation and address an issue that has been negatively impacting the logging industry and rural communities in Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District and across the country. Currently, state weight limits for logging trucks exceed federal limits in all major timber-producing states and this disparity forces drivers who are transporting raw forest products to utilize non-interstate roads, extending transit times while increasing accident risk, fuel consumption, and road damage. Logging is a vital industry and supports countless jobs across the country, especially in rural areas. Allowing logging trucks to use interstate highways would reduce the risk of traffic accidents by lowering the chance of collisions at intersections and traffic lights on state and local roads.
