IOLA TOWN MEETING: The Town of Iola Board will meet on Monday, June 30, at 6 p.m. in the town hall. Main items on the agenda are roads and a snowplow truck.
SCHOOL LIBRARY BOOKS: There is an allegation on Facebook that the Iola-Scandinavia School District is taking “3,000 books” out of the libraries and wonders what is being done to them. According to Chris Nelson, district administrator, “The District’s Board and Administration are aware of this allegation and have addressed it. The District is proud of the access our students have to books and other resources through our library system. Like other school-based library staff, the District’s library professionals are hard at work to make sure we have the books and other resources necessary for our curriculum, specifically and generally to encourage a love of reading. They make sure we have titles in current, accessible formats and remove/replace obsolete and/or damaged items. They are often working with the other professional staff within our District and library professionals across the State of Wisconsin to support our students.”
SCANDINAVIA SIT AND SLEEP: This is a new business in Scandinavia in the old antiques storefront, across from the post office. According to the Facebook page, “We focus on a smaller selection of highly acclaimed mattresses and chairs to narrow the vast amount of options. We are proud to announce we also carry a private line for organic mattresses.” The business’s website is ScandiSitSleep@gmail.com, phone number 715-467-0064.

BRADYN’S LAW PASSES ASSEMBLY: On Wednesday, June 18, the State Assembly voted to pass Assembly Bill 201 “Bradyn’s Law”. Bradyn’s Law passed the Assembly with an unopposed voice vote. This legislation was inspired by the tragic death of DC Everest High School student Bradyn Bohn, who took his own life after being targeted by an organized sexual extortion ring. Bradyn’s Law establishes sexual extortion as a new crime and imposes severe penalties including up to a 60-year sentence if the extortion results in the death of the victim.

BAR NEW SNAP FEES: “As a former small business owner in the convenience store industry, I know firsthand how burdensome EBT processing fees can be for both retailers and SNAP recipients,” said Congressman Tony Wied. “That’s why I’m proud to join Congresswoman Brown in introducing the EBT Act, ensuring that the 2018 prohibition on these fees is permanent once and for all. This bipartisan legislation will make sure SNAP recipients continue to have access to healthy food, while also continuing to relieve small business owners of unnecessary costs. This is a win-win situation, and I look forward to working with my colleagues to get this bill passed.”
