SOCCER APPLICATIONS: The Iola-Scandinavia Recreation Association reminds parents that soccer applications are due no later than Friday, April 19. Late registrations are accepted but you won’t be guaranteed a short. Also, volunteers are needed.

EDUCATIONAL SIGNAGE BEING INSTALLED AT JORGENS PARK PRESERVEThe frame for the signage of Jorgens Park Preserve prairie was installed on Saturday, April 13, by Carl (right) and Carlo Lantz of the Preserve and Trey Foerster, Rotarian. Funding was part of a group project by the Rotary Club of Waupaca, Rotary District 6220, the Iola Lions, and Central Wisconsin Electric Cooperative. The actual sign will be installed soon after it is trimmed to fit the frame.

OVERLOOKED: With U.S. Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-Green Bay) leaving Congress this month, some of the work he promised to do has fallen by the wayside. A case in point is the renaming of the Manawa post office after Melvin O. Handrich, a Medal of Honor recipient, who died in Korea. Gallagher had intended on bringing the bill to the floor in August.

VOS SURVIVES RECALL: The Wisconsin Election Commissioners voted 5-0 to reject the recall petition against Republican Assembly Speaker Robin Vos on April 11. Petitions were short of the numbers needed gathering 4,989 signatures – which was below the 6,850 needed.
