A new local event, sponsored by the Iola-Scandinavia Chamber of Commerce, called the Mead Meander will take place in Scandinavia on Friday, May 17, starting at 4 p.m.
For Norweians, May 17 is Syttede Mai, Constitution Day. That document was signed in 1814. The day is a national holiday in Norway and is celebrated with various events and activities, such as parades, speeches, and festive gatherings. People often wear traditional Norwegian attire and wave the Norwegian flag. There are also children’s parades, concerts, and various other cultural activities to mark the occasion. This day is an important part of Norwegian culture and heritage.
It promises to be a fun-filled evening of mead tasting (honey wine) and exploration at participating businesses in Scandinavia. Nine venues, with eight in downtown Scandinavia, serve tastes of various Wisconsin-made mead in a commemorative glass. Participating Businesses are Trout Bum Bakery, Scandihus, Odin & Freja’s, Silver Lake Lanes, Blooming Envy at the Runestick, The Back Forty, Happy Daaze, Country Chic Boutique, and Scandinavia Building Supply.
Music will be at the following venues: Odin & Freja’s Place featuring Olsen and Evenson, from 6-8 p.m.; Silver Lake Lanes with The Drovers, from 7:30-10:30 p.m.; and, Happy Daaze featuring Galynne, from 4-8 p.m.
The event will also offer balloon twister, a virtual photo booth, Wisconsin River Ravens re-enactors, axe throwing at the Scandinavia Fire Department, shops to visit, and more!
