Mary Adele Adams was called to her heavenly home on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2023, at the age of 109.

She was born on Sept. 30, 1914, in Chicago, Illinois, daughter of the late Cyril “Joe” and Caroline DeCoster.

On Feb. 15, 1941, she was united in marriage to Louis Adams in Chicago. In 1947, they were led back to Louis’ hometown of Iola, Wisconsin. They were blessed with 65 years together until Louis’ death on June 6, 2006.

Mary loved Scottish Terriers, gardening, cooking, and traveling. Most of all, she loved being able to provide childcare for many kids in the Iola area. Her spirit of generosity and nurturing touched the lives of many. Mary’s commitment to providing childcare and her unwavering dedication to the children of Iola will always be remembered.

Mary’s remarkable journey of 109 years was recently celebrated by notable figures such as State Rep. Kevin Peterson, Gov. Tony Evers, U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson, and President Joe Biden. She was also recognized for being a member of the Iola United Methodist Church for 71 years, demonstrating her unwavering faith.

Mary is survived by her two children, Louis (Louise) Adams and Caroline Adams. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings: Lillian DeCoster, George DeCoster, Margaret Cameron, Bernice Skudlark, Dorothy Treptow, and Joseph DeCoster.

The Funeral Service for Mary will be held on Saturday, Nov. 18, at 11 a.m. at the Voie Funeral Home. A visitation will take place prior to the service on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Iola Riverside Community Cemetery with a committal service by Rev. Leo Cadavos Jr. officiating. Family and friends are invited to honor Mary’s life and reminisce about the beautiful memories she left behind.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Mary’s special friends, Sandy Wolberg, Lin Seaman, Sally Koehler, and Elissa Krzywda for their unwavering support and kindness. They would also like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at Manawa Community Living Center for their care and compassion during Mary’s final years. May her radiant spirit continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who had the privilege of sharing in her extraordinary journey.
