Lyle Mork Day proclaimed in Iola

Lyle Mork Day was proclaimed for June 24 at a special Iola Village Board meeting on June 20.

Motion made by Alderman David Harper to approve Resolution 2024-8 to Proclaim Lyle Mork Day.

Whereas, Lyle G. Mork entered military service on Nov. 21, 1958, in the U.S. Navy. He trained at boot camp in Camp Moffet, Great Lakes Illinois, and Great Lakes Naval Hospital, Illinois. He served for four years and 15 days when he was discharged on Dec. 7, 1962, with a rating of Petty Officer 3rd Class (E4).  He was awarded the commendation of a Good Conduct Medal, and;

Whereas, Lyle became a member of The American Legion Sheveland-Taylor Post 14, Iola, Wisconsin, and;

Whereas, as an American Legion member, he led the project to honor our area veterans of the Armed Forces at The American Legion Sheveland-Taylor Post 14 Memorial Park where he had the vision to find and research the names that are honored at this park, and;

Whereas, he set up an annual fund-raising effort with the annual fund-raiser “Pie in the Park”;

Now, therefore, be it resolved by the Village of Iola Board of Trustees at its meeting on June 20, 2024, at 5 p.m., at the Iola Village Hall to express its heartfelt thanks to Lyle Mork for his dedication to preserving the history of Iola and his dedication to honoring our area servicemen and women and;

Be it further resolved that Monday, June 24, 2024, will officially be Lyle Mork day in The Village of Iola, and;

Be it further resolved that the Iola Village Board of Trustees extends its appreciation to Lyle Mork and offers its best wishes.
