Lillian I. Hussong

February 1, 1931 – July 15, 2024

It is with deep love that we announce the passing of our cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Lillian Irene Hussong who passed away on July 15, 2024, at age 93.

She was a born caregiver, host, and loving individual who modeled faith, love, and a strong work ethic. 

Born on Feb. 1, 1931, to Sam and Clara (Matson) Olson in Iola, Wisconsin, Lillian was raised on a farm and moved to Wausau, Wisconsin, to work in the restaurant and service industry. She was a respected and valued cook at the following restaurants for over 50 years: Ed’s Restaurant, Snappy Grill, and The Diner.

She married the love of her life, Ardell Hussong, on July 23, 1949, at Northland Lutheran Church in Iola and was married 59 years until his passing.

She has been a member of Grace United Church of Christ, Wausau, Wisconsin, for over 70 years, serving as a member of the Willing Workers, prayer circle, usher, and various other church-related volunteer activities. She was a lifelong country music and Elvis Presley fan. 

She is survived by her daughters, Connie Wasmundt and Kathleen Johnson; her grandchildren, Wade (Becky) Weiland, Brad Weiland, Sara (Charles) Smith, Benjamin (Kaylee) Johnson; and her great-grandchildren Sydney Weiland, Madison Weiland, Charles B. Smith, and Wayne Smith.

A special thank you to the Rennes Health and Rehab staff and Hospice staff for their care and support. 

In place of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made directly to Grace United Church of Christ, Wausau. A celebration of life will be held on July 22 at 11 a.m. at Grace United Church of Christ, Wausau. A visitation will occur from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the church, with a fellowship lunch to follow, and entombment at Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau.
