Republicans Ballweg and Jagler to face off
According to an Associated Press story, “Wisconsin’s GOP-controlled Legislature on Tuesday passed legislative maps that were proposed by Democratic Gov. Tony Evers — a move designed to prevent the liberal-controlled state Supreme Court from implementing maps that might be even worse for Republicans.
“Republicans conceded defeat, while Democrats said they were afraid of being tricked.”

As part of Evers mapping, State Sen. Joan Ballweg (R-Markesan) will have to run against Sen. John Jagler (R-Watertown) in District 65. In the Senate, four districts will have eight current sitting senators facing off against one another for four seats while Democrats will have two senators vying for one seat. In only race will a current Democrat face a current Republican.
On the Assembly side, 22 current Republican officeholders will face each other for 11 seats, while only two sitting Democrats will face each other for one seat. Two seats will have a contest between a sitting Republican and a Democrat.
The issue is before the State Supreme Court, which has a private firm making suggestions for new legislative districts.
