LaVonne “Vonnie” Marcelie Waller obituary

LaVonne “Vonnie” Marcelie Waller

November 6, 1934 – December 28, 2023

LaVonne “Vonnie” Marcelie Waller, age 89, of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, entered her eternal home on Dec. 28, 2023. After nearly a 4-year battle with multiple myeloma, Vonnie left this earth in peace with family by her side.

LaVonne was born November 6th, 1934, in the Town of St. Lawrence, Waupaca County, Wisconsin, the daughter of Olaf and Ella (Knutson) Olson. She graduated from Iola High School in 1952.

After graduation, she went to work at Hardware Mutual Insurance Company in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, for a year, and then returned home to work at the Consolidated Badger (Morning Glory) plant in Iola. She was organist at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church from September 1953 until her marriage to Alan Richard Waller on May 11, 1957.

They lived a short time in West De Pere, Wisconsin, before moving to their long-term home in Fond du Lac, where LaVonne worked at Spector Freight Trucking Company for 11 years and then at Miles Kimball until her retirement in 1999.

LaVonne was a long-time member of Immanuel-Trinity Lutheran Church where she served on an offertory team and the Chancel Guild. She also played keyboard at the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home during their Sunday services, assisting for nine years.

LaVonne’s special joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing the piano (for hours each day), scrapbooking, eating out with friends, and attending family gatherings. Her fantastic pancakes, annual lefse bake, and tasty Christmas cut-out cookies were favorites amongst the family.

Survivors include son Gregory and children with Renee, Peter, and Lilliann; son Jeffery (Beth) and children Katie (Dustin), Brittany (Matt), and Jacob; daughter Jane (and friend Lonnie); and son Jason (Tess) and children Grace, Isabelle, Timothy, and Adeline. Also, four great-grandchildren Finnegan, Theodore, Louis, and Tessa; and several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

LaVonne was preceded in death by her husband Alan, infant son Timothy, parents Olaf and Ella Olson, in-laws Orin and Ruth Waller, sister and husband Ethelyn and George Suits, sister and husband Dona and Herman Gjertson, and great-grandchild Nevins.

LaVonne always appreciated a beautiful card and used them to connect with those she loved. She never missed an opportunity to tell someone she cared through a message of Thanks, Get Well, Sympathy, Birthday Wishes or Encouragement. It was a ministry straight from her heart to share her exquisite handwriting and personal messages. LaVonne’s family encourages you to remember her by taking time to write a nice handwritten note to someone special in your life.

LaVonne’s family extends sincere thanks and appreciation to the staffs of both the SSM Cancer Center and the SSM Hospice Home for the excellent dedication and care they provided LaVonne throughout her final years. Memorials to the SSM Cancer Center or SSM Hospice Home of Hope are appreciated.

The family will greet friends and relatives from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 3, at Kurki Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 31 East Division Street, Fond du Lac and from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 4, at Community Church, N6717 Streblow Drive, Fond du Lac.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 4, at Community Church, with Rev. Doug Hedman officiating. Burial will occur later that afternoon at Our Savior’s Lutheran Cemetery in Iola.
