The annual meeting of the Lake Iola Lake District will start at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 4, in the lower shelter at Ingval Olson Park.
The lake district’s Facebook page indicated the following:
“One matter that has come up since the agenda was set is a potential fee increase by the Wisconsin DNR for our mechanical harvesting permit. We have had a successful partnership with the Village of Iola to keep navigation lanes open during our weedy months of June, July and August over the past two years, and if I am re-elected Chairman this year, I intend to focus on the long-term stability for this harvesting program as my highest priority.
“This potential fee impact involves changing the flat $300 fee for a five-year permit currently in place to a yearly fee based on acres harvested. We harvest 36 acres, so the fee would be $1,875 for the first year, followed by $938 per year for the following years of the five-year permit.
This rule change will go before the Wis. Natural Resource Board later this month. If approved, then it goes to the Governor then the Legislature before is becomes a law we will have to live by. We will be discussing our response to this possible permit change at our meeting on Saturday.”
No meeting agenda has been posted as of June 2.
