The Lake Iola Lake District Commissioners will convene at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 7, at the Iola Village Hall to review a DNR fish survey presentation, evaluate the effectiveness of the weed harvester program, discuss fundraising initiatives, and address the results of the annual goose roundup. The board is also expected to enter a closed session to discuss personnel matters.
During the meeting, Elliot Hoffman of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources will present findings from a recent fish population survey conducted on Lake Iola. Commissioners will likely use this data to assess the lake’s ecological health and determine future conservation strategies. Hoffman’s presentation is anticipated to inform both long-term management decisions and short-term lake usage policies.
In addition to ecological matters, the commissioners will hear standard reports from the secretary, treasurer, and chairman. Chairman’s updates will include progress on the weed harvester program, which has drawn local attention due to concerns about invasive aquatic vegetation. The board is expected to consider modifications or enhancements to this program to improve water quality and recreational access.
Fundraising will also be on the agenda, with the board planning to brainstorm new community-driven funding ideas to support ongoing lake district projects. Commissioners will discuss options such as local events, donation campaigns, or grant applications.
The meeting will also include a review of the outcomes from the recent goose roundup, which was conducted to mitigate the growing nuisance of non-migratory geese around the lake. The roundup’s effectiveness and potential for future repetition will be evaluated.
Later in the evening, the board will motion to enter a closed session per Wisconsin Statute 19.85(1)(c) to discuss confidential personnel matters, including employment and performance evaluations.
Any other legally permissible topics brought forth by the public or commissioners will be addressed before the meeting adjourns.
