Rep. Brent Jacobson, a Republican from Mosinee, announced Thursday he will seek re-election this fall to represent Wisconsin’s 87th Assembly District.
Jacobson, who served nearly a decade as Mosinee mayor before winning his Assembly seat, highlighted several accomplishments from his first term as he launched his campaign for a second term.
The district covers portions of Marathon, Portage, Waupaca, and Shawano counties in central Wisconsin.
Jacobson pointed to bipartisan work as a key achievement. He co-authored Bradyn’s Law, named for Bradyn Bohn, a D.C. Everest High School student who died after becoming a victim of the online crime of sextortion. The legislation makes sextortion a Class B felony in Wisconsin.
He also credited his Republican caucus with delivering $1.5 billion in income tax cuts for middle-class families and seniors in the most recent state budget.
Additionally, Jacobson led efforts to increase legislative oversight of state bureaucracy in Madison. He spearheaded a proposed constitutional amendment that would allow the Legislature to pause what he called radical regulations that impose burdens and costs on Wisconsin residents.
The announcement comes as lawmakers prepare for the 2026 election cycle, with the general election scheduled for Nov. 3, 2026.
“I am proud of the great work I was able to be a part of this past session, both within the Republican caucus and in working across the aisle,” Jacobson said. “There is always more we can do to improve our state, I am up for the challenge, and it would be an honor to continue to represent my constituents in Madison.”
Jacobson’s re-election bid focuses on continuing efforts to cut taxes, strengthen public safety measures against online crimes, and rein in regulatory growth from the state capital.
