The Board of Directors has a few openings to fill this summer.
How to Apply: Please provide a written statement describing your current involvement with the IWSC and reasons for wanting to join the Board of Directors. Include in this description the areas within the Organizational Structure that interest you (what committees you would like to lead/join) and any skills you have that would improve the workings of the IWSC. Please send this to iolawintersportsclub@gmail.com by June 1st to be considered in this round of applications.

Iola Winter Sports Club Board members help direct and guide the club by considering projects and actions that will improve all functions of the club. A Board member must participate actively in the affairs of the IWSC, including regular attendance at Board meetings. Board members are encouraged to be active beyond attendance at monthly Board meetings by taking part in the running of the club through leading and/or work on the club’s committees. A Board member is in a position of trust within the club and as such should act in good faith, be respectful of club and fellow Board members, be careful in their deliberations and actions, be responsive to the needs of the members, and make sure the members are educated so that they can exercise their rights.
The Iola Winter Sports Club Board of Directors welcome individuals of all backgrounds to join the Board. The following information is provided to inform individuals who are considering applying to the Board about the nature of the IWSC and duties of Board members.
IWSC Mission: As stewards of the land and trail systems at IWSC, we value the ability to provide high quality and challenging recreation opportunities for people of all ages and abilities in support of an active and healthy lifestyle.
Vision: We support our rich history by enthusiastically providing silent sports programming at an affordable cost.
Strategic Initiatives:
– To provide youth an opportunity to learn, experience and refine skills in winter sports activities
– To create a long-term sustainability plan to ensure that our rich legacy will continue
– To foster a sense of belonging in all visitors
– To provide an outdoor venue for people of all ages to cruise under their own power while enjoying what nature has provided
Board Member Responsibilities:
A Board member’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
– Attend Board meetings held on the second Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m.
– Actively participate in conversations and decision making
– Participate in the Club’s committees
– Serve at least one full year as a member of the Board
– Select and submit for approval by the Board of Directors a slate of prospective members for a Board of Advisors for their area of expertise
– Serve as a contact person for their sphere of influence (friends and business associates with which he/she has influence)
– Be constantly alert to the needs of the community
– Recommend actions and activities to the foundation relating to their area of expertise
– Lead various committees to investigate potential activities, disbursements, and investment possibilities
– Vote on all matters or proposals presented to the Board of Directors
– Be prepared to solicit funds for the foundation and to offer personal financial support if possible
