The Iola Winter Sports Club will soon welcome runners, walkers, and outdoor enthusiasts to two exciting events set to highlight the fall season on its scenic ski trails.
The first, the “Under the Lights Trail Run,” will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m. on the club’s illuminated trails. Just weeks later, the club will debut the “Iola Fall Classic Trail Race” on Saturday, Oct. 6, starting at 9 a.m. Both events promise to bring the community together in celebration of fitness, family fun, and the great outdoors.
The Under the Lights Trail Run will feature a 5k course on the ski trails, offering participants the option to run, hike, or walk at their own pace. The entry fee is $10 per person, while children under 10 may participate for free. A daily trail pass is also required at $10, except for the youngest runners. Following the event, attendees will be invited to relax with refreshments and gather around a fire, fostering a family-friendly, community atmosphere.
Just over two weeks later, the spotlight will shift to the Iola Fall Classic Trail Race, a brand-new annual tradition expected to draw competitive runners and casual participants alike. Scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 6 at E398 County Rd MM in Iola, the race will offer distances of 25k, 10k, and 5k, all beginning at 9 a.m. Courses will feature a challenging but scenic mix of singletrack and cross-country ski trails.
Registration for the Fall Classic is currently open online. Early bird pricing is set at $30 until Oct. 1, after which registration will increase to $40. Day-of registration will also be available starting at 8 a.m. on race morning, cash only. Water and Gatorade will be provided for the 10k and 25k participants, and all runners will enjoy post-race refreshments and snacks.
The Fall Classic will also feature activities for children, including art projects, mountain biking, and games, making the event a family-friendly festival. Awards will be presented to the top three male and female finishers overall, with additional recognition given to the top three competitors in each age category.
With events designed to appeal to both serious runners and families seeking outdoor fun, the Iola Winter Sports Club is set to showcase its trails and community spirit this fall.
