The Village Board of the Village of Iola will conduct two public hearings and address routine municipal matters when it meets Tuesday, March 10, at 5:30 p.m. in the Community Room at Iola Village Hall, 180 South Main Street.

The most significant items on the agenda are public hearings for the adoption of a new ordinance book and a proposed ordinance to permit backyard chickens within village limits. The board will consider Resolution 2026-2 to adopt the new ordinance book and Resolution 2026-3 to establish rules for backyard chickens. A related backyard chicken application and fee structure will also be discussed.

The proposed backyard chickens ordinance would allow residents to keep hens for personal, non-commercial use, with limits including no more than six chickens per property, a prohibition on roosters, no on-premises slaughter, and requirements for secure, covered enclosures to always contain the birds.

These hearings provide residents with an opportunity to comment before final action on the measures, which could update the village’s codified regulations and introduce new provisions for small-scale poultry keeping in this Waupaca County community of about 1,200 residents.

Specifics of the new Chicken Ordinance can be read here.

In new business, the board will review an operator’s permit application for Alison Dunham, expiring June 30, 2028; set the Board of Review for May 19, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; accept a retirement resignation from Glenn Tetzlaff; receive an update on a contract for Bazile Assessment Services; and discuss hiring for the Public Works Department.

The board will also approve minutes from several prior meetings in February and early March 2026, hear committee reports — including February statistics from the library and protection of persons and property (police) committee, a report of a new patrol officer hired, and bills and the February financial report from the finance committee — and address old or unfinished business.

It will conclude with board correspondence — including an invitation to the Waupaca County Highway Department annual meeting — and adjournment.
