Iola Village Board to decide on major public works contracts and zoning administrator role

On Tuesday, June 10, at 5:30 p.m., the Village of Iola Board will convene at the Iola Village Hall, 180 S. Main Street, to address a comprehensive agenda featuring the approval of an $81,685 sewer lining project, the sale of a decommissioned Public Works truck, the creation of a Zoning Administrator position, and a wave of licenses and permits to support summer events and local businesses.

The meeting will follow Robert’s Rules of Order and begin with formalities, including a public statement, roll call, and public comments. The board is expected to approve minutes from six prior meetings before transitioning to key matters of old and new business.

Public Works truck sale and infrastructure spending to be finalized

The board will act on the sale of a 1995 Ford L800 truck, formerly used by the Public Works Department, for $8,650. The proceeds will be allocated to the Public Works Vehicle Fund. More notably, trustees will vote on accepting a $81,685 proposal from VisuSewer for lining 1,922 linear feet of sewer main — an effort aimed at modernizing essential underground infrastructure.

In a strategic move to enhance local governance, the board will review and potentially adopt a formal job description for a Zoning Administrator. This role is expected to streamline enforcement and planning across the village’s zoning ordinances, ensuring more efficient development review processes.

A $100 donation will be reviewed for fire prevention material aimed at local youth through the Iola Scandinavia Fire Department. Meanwhile, a series of liquor and operator licenses — some for large-scale events such as the Iola Old Car Show and the Big Bull Falls Harley Davidson Owner’s Ride — will be considered. The board may waive fees totaling $360 for event operators and sellers.

Temporary and annual music and entertainment permits will also be discussed, paving the way for several community festivals scheduled through July and August.

Multiple new and renewed alcohol licenses will be evaluated, including those for Finally K. Inc. (Iola Sentry Foods), Depot Street Station, Rustic Grill, Otto’s Beer Garden, and Thirsty Perch, LLC. A key item includes issuing a statutory waiver allowing Thirsty Perch to operate near restricted zones like schools or churches.

Also on the agenda is a $25,000 donation from the Community Development Authority earmarked for audio-visual upgrades at Iola Scandinavia High School, aimed at enhancing learning technology for students.

Committees to present reports

Various committee updates will be presented, including updates from the Community Development Authority on goat-related projects and the Library Committee on programming statistics. The meeting will conclude with a closed session under Wisconsin Statute §19.85(1)(e), potentially followed by board action based on the closed deliberations.
