The Village of Iola Board of Trustees endorsed a Department of Natural Resources grant application by the Lake Iola Lake District for a new weed cutter during its regular meeting on Feb. 10.
President Pro Tem David Harper presided over the session at 5:30 p.m. in the Community Room at Iola Village Hall, 180 South Main Street, Iola, as President Jennifer Schustek was absent. Trustees David Harper, Jim Rasmussen, Aaron Messier, Alan Bauer, and Pamela Parks were present.
The board unanimously approved Resolution No. 2026-1, which expressed support for the Lake Iola Lake District’s grant request to purchase a new weed cutter. The resolution also committed the village to assist in ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations throughout the application process and during operation of the equipment on the 220-acre lake.
In other action, the board assigned the address 144 Depot Street to parcel 26 35 71313, approved an operator’s permit for R. Krause, and approved the hiring of Patrolman Hunter Jankowski for the Iola Police Department. Following the vote, Jankowski recited the Oath of Office before the board, with his mother pinning his badge on his uniform.
The board approved corrected minutes from several January and early February 2026 meetings. It also accepted the January 2026 library report, the Protection of Persons and Property monthly service report showing 102 calls, bills presented by the Finance Committee, and the December 2025 financial report.
Committee updates included a call for a new Planning & Zoning member after a resignation, notice that the Ordinance Committee had drafted a Backyard Chicken Ordinance for future consideration, and a reading of recent Iola/Suring Chamber minutes.
No old or unfinished business appeared on the agenda. The meeting adjourned at 5:56 p.m.
The endorsement aligned with ongoing local efforts to manage invasive aquatic vegetation, including Eurasian watermilfoil, which has affected water quality and recreational use on Lake Iola in recent years.
