
The Village of Iola Board of Trustees met on Dec. 10, 2024, at Iola Village Hall to approve a two-year contract with General Engineering Company (GEC) for building inspections, among other community updates. The board also reviewed committee reports addressing public works, ordinances, and park improvements.
At 5:30 p.m., President Pro-Tem David Harper called the meeting to order. Following procedural formalities, the board held a public hearing to consider adopting General Engineering Company as the new building inspection provider. The firm’s proposed fee schedule and two-year contract were discussed.
No public comments were made during the hearing. After reconvening the regular meeting, the board unanimously approved the contract, effective Jan. 1, 2025.
Committee Reports
Library Activity – The Library Committee presented a detailed report for November 2024. Highlights included:
- Total Circulation: 1,908 items loaned, with a net interlibrary loan of 257.
- Digital Access: 109 e-books, 147 audiobooks, and 32 magazines accessed online.
- Programs Hosted: 13 events, with 161 attendees.
- Patron Visits: 1,478.
The report underscored the library’s robust engagement in digital resources and community programming. Trustee Jim Rasmussen moved to approve the report, and it passed without objection.
Public Works – Key updates from the Public Works Committee included: Snowplow Replacement: The old snowplow was sold, and a new one was acquired, to be fitted to existing equipment.
Ordinance – The Ordinance Committee is nearing completion of its comprehensive review of the village ordinance book. Revisions are on track for submission to Civic Plus by the end of January 2025. The board aims to distribute the finalized ordinance book by Summer 2025.
Park and Garden – The Park & Garden Committee reported on playground equipment repairs. Replacement parts have been ordered, and work will begin upon their arrival. The board approved the committee’s update.
