
The Iola-Scandinavia boys golf team faced fierce competition during the Central Wisconsin Conference match held at Pine Hills Golf Club on April 29, finishing seventh in a tight field of nine schools.
In a tournament led by Amherst, who posted a team score of 343, the Thunderbirds recorded a final score of 395. While the overall placement wasn’t what the team had hoped for, individual performances highlighted the squad’s resilience and potential heading deeper into the season.
Junior Mike Kirmse delivered Iola-Scandinavia’s best performance of the day, finishing 11th individually with a solid round of 89.
Samuel Groeschl followed with a respectable 94, while Dawson Nusz contributed a 104. Rounding out the Thunderbirds’ scorecard were Ryan Barden, who shot a 108, and Preston Poehlman with a 112.
Bonduel’s Colin Fischer earned medalist honors with an impressive round of 80, narrowly edging Amherst’s Eli Zakrzewski, who carded an 81 for second place.
