Iola-Scandinavia Golf Team shows grit at Stevens Point

The Iola-Scandinavia High School varsity golf team faced a competitive field Monday, May 5, at the Stevens Point Country Club, finishing 8th out of 10 teams with a total score of 396. Although the Thunderbirds didn’t place among the top teams, senior Samuel Groeschl delivered a strong individual performance, finishing 12th overall to lead his squad.

The event was headlined by Bonduel’s Jaxon Bogacz, who claimed medalist honors with a round of 79. Amherst’s Trent Simonis followed closely behind with an 80, helping propel Amherst to a commanding team victory with a cumulative score of 342.

For Iola-Scandinavia, Groeschl’s performance was a highlight in an otherwise challenging outing. Sophomore Mik Kirmse was the next top scorer for Iola-Scandinavia, carding a 96. Junior Preston Poehlman followed with a 101, while Ryan Barden and Dawson Nusz rounded out the team’s effort with scores of 110 and 115, respectively.
