Iola-Scandinavia Golf finishes fifth in competitive CWC Mini-Meet at Glen Cairn

The Iola-Scandinavia High School golf team put up a solid performance at the Central Wisconsin Conference Mini-Meet on April 21, finishing fifth out of 10 schools at Glen Cairn Golf Course.

The Thunderbirds posted a team score of 387, landing behind Amherst, which took top honors with a strong 344, and runner-up Weyauwega-Fremont at 367. Despite the stiff competition, Iola-Scandinavia had bright spots, particularly in the play of senior standout Samuel Groeschl.

Groeschl turned in an impressive round of 83, securing third place individually among all golfers on the day. He trailed only George Seegmiller of Wittenberg-Birnamwood, who carded a meet-low 77, and Jaxon Bogacz of Bonduel (79) in a tightly contested field.

Senior Mike Kirmse also contributed significantly to the team’s effort, finishing with a respectable 87. Rounding out the Thunderbird lineup were Dawson Nusz, who scored a 100, and Preston Poehlman with a 122.
