Iola-Scandinavia football and volleyball standouts make All-Conference honors

In a memorable season for Iola-Scandinavia High School’s football and volleyball teams, a group of student-athletes received well-deserved recognition, marking a significant achievement for the Thunderbird program. With stellar performances on both the football field and volleyball court, several players landed spots on the coveted All-Conference list, highlighting their talent and dedication to their teams.

Football

The Thunder football team, led by standout quarterback Jensen Rice, had a season marked by strong offensive and defensive showings, and Rice emerged as a linchpin for the team’s strategy. His efforts earned him First Team All-Conference honors at quarterback and Second Team recognition as a defensive back, acknowledging his versatility and impact on both sides of the ball.

Alongside Rice, linebacker Billy Myers demonstrated fierce defensive prowess, securing a First Team All-Conference spot as a linebacker and an Honorable Mention as a running back. Myers’ agility and determination were instrumental throughout the season, positioning him as a key player for the T-Birds.

Also making the First Team All-Conference roster were tight end Korz Loken and offensive and defensive lineman Ryan Doede. Loken, who doubled as an outside linebacker, added another Second Team nod to his accolades. The Thunder’s front line remained rock solid with Doede anchoring both offensive and defensive roles, an effort that did not go unnoticed as he achieved a First Team nod for his work on the line.

In addition to the First Team honorees, the Thunderbird’s roster included Second Team defensive back Charlie Tappa. Kyrylo Kopytsia (defensive back), Tanner Kampert (linebacker), and Brian Kroseberg (offensive line) also earned Honorable Mentions for their contributions on defense, solidifying a defensive line that proved resilient and effective in tough matchups.

Volleyball

Meanwhile, on the volleyball court, McKenzie Bonikowske was named First Team All-Conference, underscoring her vital role in the Thunder’s successful season. Her performance showcased her as one of the standout players in the conference. Additionally, Emma Printz received Honorable Mention for her contributions, rounding out the list of Iola-Scandinavia athletes honored this fall.
