Iola-Scandinavia Boys Golf Team battles hard at Foxfire Invitational

In a fiercely competitive field at the Foxfire Invitational on May 2, the Iola-Scandinavia varsity boys golf team delivered a valiant effort, finishing in ninth place with a team score of 400.

The meet was topped by Amherst, whose squad collectively shot an impressive 328, with Amherst’s Daniel Eichmann leading all golfers with a tournament-best 78.

Despite the challenging competition, Iola-Scandinavia found bright spots in the performances of senior Samuel Groeschl and sophomore Mike Kirmse. Groeschl secured a sixth-place individual finish with a commendable round of 82. Kirmse wasn’t far behind, carding an 83 to place 10th, giving the Thunderbirds two top 10 individual finishers.

Dawson Nusz posted a score of 104, while Palatip Miyamae rounded out the team effort with a 131. Together, their collective scores placed Iola-Scandinavia ahead of Manawa (403) but just behind Wittenberg-Birnamwood (399).
